"Russian Funds " prepare for creation of new insurance holding

"Russian Funds / Russkie Fondy" continue to implement their insurance strategy and are capitalizing the closed joint stock company "Insurance Group / Strakhovaya Gruppa". One of the steps in this direction is the February 2007 purchase of Moscow Re: Insurance Group / Strakhovaya Gruppa acquired 100% of the share capital of the open joint stock company Moscow Reinsurance Company.

Standard & Poor’s has confirmed the long-term rating of Moscow Reinsurance Company at the level ‘B+’ on its international scale and ‘A+’ on its Russian scale.

The ratings on Moscow Re reflect the high industry risk in the Russian (re)insurance market, and the company’s challenged competitive position in large property risks. These negative factors are mitigated by Moscow Re’s adequate capitalization, marginal quality of investments, and marginal operating performance.

Change in shareholder structure

Bank Vozrozhdenie and other minority shareholders sold their 30% stake in Moscow Re. The buyers are a group of investors consisting of members of the board of directors.

Gunter Geisler today assumed the role of CEO of Moscow Re. He had been appointed by the Board of Directors at its meeting 15 August 2006. Prior to assuming his new position, Mr Geisler was Chairman of the Board of Moscow Re.

Yuliya Egorova appointed Financial Director of Moscow Re

Since her appointment on 14th August, Yuliya Egorova has begun to oversee the development and implementation of the company’s financial strategy, management of investment portfolio, preparation of the company for an Initial Public Offering, budgeting, relations with ratings agencies, organising the in-house preparation of financial records to IFRS, and overseeing the accounts department.

Moscow Re figures for July 2006

OJSC Moscow Reinsurance Company wrote RUR 107 mln. in reinsurance premiums, representing a 10% increase over premium income for July 2005. The growth was largely due to a substantial increase (27%) in facultative business in July 2006 when compared with the same month a year ago.

Gunter Geisler elected CEO of Moscow Re

Moscow, August 15th, 2006 – Gunter Geisler was elected as Chief Executive Officer (President) of Moscow Reinsurance Company plc during an extraordinary meeting of Moscow Re’s shareholders. 13 shareholders holding in total 98.47% of the companies shares took part in this meeting. Gunter Geisler will officially commence his role as active CEO from October 1st, 2006.

Moscow Re has announced that its 3 quarters figures for 2005 have placed it on course with a gross premium written of 615, 186 m roubles ($21,361 m - 50% coming from Motor business and 26% coming from Property), these results exceed the results of the corresponding period of 2004 by 20%.
